Chapter 9
After that night, Adrian moved into my rental apartment.
No matter how I tried to chase him out, he refused to leave.
Life seemed to return to what it had been before.
Adrian washed my underwear, cooked for me, and at night he even used the inside of his thighs to warm my feet.
Although nine times out of ten, I would feel something hard pressing there.
I pretended not to notice.
As the one benefiting from all this, I naturally believed silence was golden.
After all, he really did take excellent care of me.
Still, even though he had moved in, Adrian often complained that my apartment was shabby.
I did not argue.
Because I thought it was shabby too.
I had only signed the lease because it was cheap.
It was hard to adjust from luxury to simplicity. Once you had gotten used to living in a villa, of course you would not adapt easily to a cramped studio where even brushing your teeth together felt crowded.
One time, while I was curled in Adrian’s arms, I subtly asked when he planned to leave.
Adrian bit the soft flesh at my waist and said, “Am I not serving you comfortably enough?”
Feeling the unmistakable change in him, I quietly shut my mouth.
At the same time, I let out a long sigh inside.
If he did not leave soon, I was going to become dependent on him all over again.
Adrian pinched my waist and suddenly said, “There’s a banquet tomorrow. Someone specifically asked for you.”
I looked at him blankly. “Who?”
He did not answer, only said mysteriously, “You’ll know when you get there.”
The next day, in a private room at a restaurant in the city, Chloe Hart spotted me the moment I entered and came over with a smile.
“Nora, you came! I saw you the other day feeding stray cats. I feed that big orange tabby too. I wanted to say hi, but I had something urgent and had to rush off.”
She seemed especially chatty.
We had only met a few times, but as Chloe pulled me over to sit down, inspiration suddenly struck.
“Did you invite me?”
She blinked playfully. “I didn’t bother you, did I? I just felt like we got along.”
I was just about to shake my head when the banquet officially began.
Chloe was called away.
Only when the host started speaking did I slowly realize what kind of event this was.
It was Chloe’s engagement party.
And her fiancé was not Adrian.
I turned toward the man beside me in shock.
He sensed it and lowered his head toward me.
“What’s wrong?”
I suppressed the storm of questions in my heart and shook my head.
“Nothing.”
The floating comments exploded with confusion.
Where exactly has this plot gone?
Why is the female lead getting engaged to some random side guy who never even appeared before?
Can someone explain this to me?
He’s not exactly random, right? If I remember correctly, he’s the female lead’s childhood neighbor. They’ve liked each other for years.
Then what about our male lead?
He can celebrate, obviously.
Hey, hasn’t the male lead always had the side character next to him anyway? Forget weird ships. Since it’s right in front of me, I’m shipping this one.
They actually look so good together.
