Chapter 11
When I woke up four days later, I finally could not stand that single bed anymore.
It creaked nonstop whenever we moved, and after one night on it my back and waist ached all over.
So while Adrian was making breakfast, I wrapped my arms around his lean waist from behind and mumbled, “Um… can we move back today?”
Adrian thought for a moment and nodded solemnly.
“You’re right. The big bed in the villa really is more convenient for me to perform.”
I fell silent.
That answer was deafening.
The moment we reached the front of the villa, a fluffy calico kitten came wobbling toward me, meowing nonstop.
It looked only three or four months old.
Delighted, I scooped it into my arms.
Then I immediately thought of the scratches on Adrian’s hand.
“You prepared this?”
Adrian sounded smug.
“I got her from Chloe. She’s the baby of that orange cat you always feed.”
My nose tingled.
“But… don’t you hate cats?”
He answered as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“You like them, don’t you?”
Looking at the scabbed scratches on the back of his hand, my eyes finally grew wet.
“The cat scratched you?”
“The first time I clipped her nails, she wasn’t used to it yet. She struggled and caught me by accident. Don’t worry. She’s vaccinated, dewormed, and I even taught her how to use the litter box.”
I laughed through my tears.
So the cat plush in the car had actually been Chloe’s gift to me, not to Adrian.
I put the kitten down, took Adrian’s hand, and kissed the scarred skin on the back of it.
“It’s so good,” I whispered. “Adrian, meeting you was such a good thing.”
He lifted his chin proudly, but the red at the tips of his ears gave him away.
Later, because the little thing was far too mischievous, we named her Trouble.
Staying that lively forever would not be such a bad thing.
Then, one day later, Ethan suddenly texted me and asked me to watch a movie with him.
Adrian was especially sensitive to Ethan’s name.
Seeing how on edge Adrian looked, I tested the waters.
“Then I won’t go?”
He let out a cold laugh.
“Oh, you’re definitely going.”
That day, Adrian dressed himself up like a peacock, determined to make his love rival feel inferior the moment he saw him.
He planted himself right between Ethan and me in the theater, guarding against Ethan like he was guarding against a thief.
Only when the movie began did we all realize we were watching a patriotic war film together.
When we left the theater, Adrian still looked baffled.
“Why wasn’t it a romance movie?”
Ethan brushed past him and sneered.
“The company gave out the tickets.”
I smiled helplessly at Adrian.
“Ethan said it would be a waste not to use them. I hadn’t seen it either, so he invited me.”
Adrian only replied with a frosty, “Oh.”
