Chapter 7
Back at the villa, Adrian swept his wet bangs back with one hand and finally started settling accounts.
His whole body was taut, as if he were suppressing some violent emotion.
“You want to move out that badly?”
“Before leaving, did you even think about where you’d live?”
“Did you think about what you’d do with all your things?”
“You left without saying a word. Did you think about whether someone would worry?”
“Even if you were determined to go, you should at least have prepared first.”
I kept my head lowered and said nothing.
Then I pulled out the box of bandages from my arms.
It had not gotten wet at all.
“Adrian,” I said, “I wasn’t running away. I saw your hand was hurt, so I went out to buy bandages for you.”
At that moment, under my sincere gaze, Adrian’s pupils shook violently.
His throat bobbed.
He turned his face away and changed the subject stiffly.
“You’re soaked through. I’ll wash you up.”
This time too, he made the decision without room for argument.
He gently placed me in the bathtub.
Mist filled the bathroom.
One of my legs rested on the white porcelain edge while the rest of my body sank into warm water.
Adrian’s eyes darkened.
His long, well-defined fingers began peeling off my clothes one by one.
When he reached my underwear, I grabbed his hand.
“I’ll wash myself. You go out.”
Adrian frowned and looked at my scraped knee.
“Your leg is injured. It can’t touch water.”
I insisted, “I’ll be careful.”
He stepped back slightly. “Then I’ll wipe your leg for you.”
I did not even know who moved first after that.
My head turned hazy.
Adrian dried me, carried me to bed, and things quickly spiraled out of control.
Wherever he touched, my skin reacted helplessly.
He kissed my eyelids.
His warm breath brushed my face, making me shiver.
It should have been a beautiful moment.
But when I saw the floating comments in the air, I could not focus.
How can the male lead sleep with the side character? He’s tainted now.
The side character isn’t going to mistake this for love, is she?
Please. Men have physical needs too, okay?
I knew it. She’s totally using retreat to advance.
This time, I did not blindly believe the comments.
I had this growing feeling that Adrian and I still had too many things left unsaid.
So I kissed his throat to stop him.
“Adrian… are you doing this because you like me? Or just because you want to satisfy physical needs?”
He clearly stiffened.
Then he let out a low laugh and said, word by word, “Nora Bennett, I have hands.”
Before he could say more, his phone rang sharply.
He clicked his tongue in annoyance.
But after hearing whatever was said on the other end, Adrian’s face changed instantly.
He hung up and hurriedly started pulling his clothes back on.
He explained, “Something happened at the company. Some contract files were burned. I need to go check.”
I grabbed the corner of his shirt, my throat tight.
I had just seen the caller name.
It was Chloe.
But Adrian seemed to think I was reluctant to let him go. He leaned down, kissed the top of my head, and promised, “Be good. I’ll come back as soon as I can.”
Very soon, I was the only one left in the bedroom.
I stared blankly at the empty room.
The side character is so ridiculously self-important.
She really thinks the male lead likes her?
The male lead belongs to the female lead.
The second he heard she was in danger, he rushed right over. Nobody can split up the official couple.
By now, the side character still won’t let go?
If it were me, I’d leave with dignity. Clinging on like this is just embarrassing.
Yes.
Clinging like this really was too embarrassing.
