Chapter 5
Because it was the weekend, Adrian and I both stayed home.
For once, he invited me to watch a movie in the media room.
A thriller.
I hesitated.
If I stayed in the same room with him, I would definitely get scared and instinctively crawl into his arms.
But Adrian did not like physical closeness with me.
In the past, every time we watched a movie together, I would have to whine and coax him for ages before he finally let me curl up against him.
And every single time, Adrian would sit there stiff and upright. If the hero and heroine kissed on screen, he would quietly push me away.
Once, in a low voice, he had muttered, “It’s hot.”
I had reached up to touch his face, but Adrian dodged me like he had been shocked.
Before I could ask about it, he had already used the excuse of going to the bathroom and fled the room.
Like is hidden in details. Dislike is too.
Thinking of all that, I shook my head and was just about to refuse.
Then the doorbell rang.
I seized the chance to escape and hurried off to open the door.
Standing outside was a girl I had never seen before.
Her hands were tucked behind her back, and she smiled brightly at me.
“Hi. I’m here to see Adrian.”
I froze.
Ah, our female lead has arrived.
Her smile is so pretty. She feels so full of life.
She and the male lead are clearly meant for each other.
She came all the way here just to intimidate the side character, right?
Seeing the floating comments hanging in midair, I instinctively took two steps back and called into the house, “Adrian! Someone’s here for you.”
Soon, the tall man appeared at the door in home clothes.
The girl finally brought out what she had been hiding behind her back.
It was a soft snow-white pillow.
Sweet dimples bloomed on both cheeks as she spoke in a gentle voice. “I heard you haven’t been sleeping well, so I picked one that helps with sleep.”
Adrian’s face did not reveal much.
“Thanks.”
After they exchanged a few more words, I stood nearby, feeling as though my legs were filled with lead.
I could not move a single step.
Do you see the female lead’s careful thought here?
A pillow is the perfect gift. It closes the distance without being too suggestive, and it targets the male lead’s weak point exactly.
She’s thoughtful and knows boundaries. No wonder she’s the female lead.
If I remember right, the pillow the male lead uses now was bought by the side character, right?
Looks like it’s about to be replaced by the female lead’s gift.
That’s exactly how it should happen.
First her things get replaced. Then she gets replaced too.
I lowered my eyes and was about to slip away quietly when the girl suddenly called out to me.
Her eyes curved with a bright smile. “You’re Mr. Cole’s girlfriend, right? You’re so beautiful. By the way, I’m Chloe Hart. I like cats too.”
I frowned in confusion and was about to say something, but Adrian moved too fast.
He had already ushered her out.
Then he strode quickly into the bedroom.
When he came back out, he was holding another pillow.
The one I had bought.
His expression remained calm as he handed it to me.
“Doesn’t your room not have a pillow? Use this one.”
He paused, then added, “This one’s comfortable.”
I stared at it for a long moment before reaching out to take it.
A trace of bitterness flashed through my eyes.
“Okay.”
The floating comments had been right again.
Adrian really had chosen Chloe’s pillow and returned mine to me.
Maybe he was afraid I would make a scene, so he had even prepared a reason in advance.
I knew there would only be more moments like this in the future.
I fled back to my room in near panic.
