Chapter 10
After we got home, Adrian said nothing.
He quietly hand-washed my underwear again.
I passed by him and casually brought up, “Chloe is with someone else now.”
He had no reaction.
So the next time I passed him, I said it again as if it meant nothing.
“Chloe is with someone else now.”
Adrian frowned, looking a little annoyed.
I thought to myself, so I was right.
But in the next second, he burst out angrily, “I know. She got engaged. What does that have to do with me? Even if I’m her boss, it’s not like I can interfere that much.”
Then he looked at me and added through gritted teeth, “Nora Bennett, if you have the energy to care about other people’s business, you’d be better off paying more attention to me.”
I froze and blurted out, “Don’t you like Chloe?”
Adrian laughed coldly in disbelief.
“How come I didn’t know I liked her?”
I was even more confused.
If the floating comments had all been wrong, then none of his past behavior made any sense.
Right then, the comments appeared again.
Holy hell. So the male lead never liked the female lead at all. He’s always liked the side character.
I was wondering about that.
He acted like he disliked physical intimacy with her, but his body was always very honest.
I just read the extra story. I get it now.
That time the female lead brought him a pillow? The male lead was the one who told her to buy it.
He saw the side character didn’t have a pillow to sleep on and had the female lead deliver one for him.
Poor overworked employee.
And that phone call that dragged him away? The company really was in trouble.
The female lead’s office caught fire for no reason, so of course he went to check on it.
This misunderstanding is massive.
I blinked slowly.
So… that was the truth?
Before I could fully process it, Adrian had already started reflecting on himself.
“I understand now. I must not have made you feel secure enough.”
Then he added gravely, “I’ll work harder tonight.”
My whole body tensed.
I turned instinctively to run, but Adrian moved faster. One step later, he had already wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me back.
He kissed my eyes and whispered in a sticky, needy tone right beside my ear.
“I’m sorry, honey. I like you. I only like you. Don’t leave me, okay?”
“I was wrong.”
I really could not handle how clingy he was acting.
I raised my hand and smacked him.
He only became more shameless after that.
We tossed and rolled around until well past midnight before finally falling asleep.
I was exhausted.
