Chapter 4
Adrian narrowed his eyes dangerously.
The atmosphere turned awkward.
I gently swung the hand he was holding and broke the tension.
“Adrian, let’s go home.”
Then I waved to Ethan. “We’re leaving. Bye. Be careful on the road.”
The entire way back, Adrian looked terrible.
He had long legs and walked fast, so I had to half-jog just to keep up with him.
After we got in the car, I looked at his cold side profile and tried to explain, but the words caught in my throat.
Because my gaze accidentally landed on something behind the windshield.
There was a very cute cat plush sitting there.
Adrian did not like cats.
And that plush had definitely not been there yesterday.
Hehe. Such a cute cat plush must have been placed there by the female lead.
Look at the side character’s face. She definitely guessed what it means.
Honestly, she should just bow out gracefully and stop humiliating herself.
And she doesn’t seriously think the male lead acted like that just because he was jealous, right? Impossible.
Any man would hate being cuckolded.
I blinked slowly, forcing back the sting rising in my nose.
So the comments had not lied to me.
He really had driven the female lead home after barely knowing her for a day.
And because he cared about her, he even allowed a cat plush he usually disliked to sit right in front of him.
At this rate, it would not be long before Adrian asked to break up with me.
I sniffed quietly and edged farther away from him in the seat.
If a breakup was inevitable, I did not want to look too pathetic when I left.
So after dinner, which Adrian had cooked himself, I took advantage of the time he spent working in his study and secretly moved all my things from the bedroom into the guest room.
I no longer interrupted him again and again like before, no longer tried to coax him into coming to bed early to keep me company.
After my shower, I climbed into bed alone and wrapped myself tightly in the blanket.
My feet were cold.
Maybe from today on, no one would warm them for me anymore.
I was still lying there with wild thoughts when someone knocked on the door.
I jumped up and opened it, keeping most of my body hidden behind the door and only showing my head.
“Adrian? Do you need something?”
He pressed one foot against the door and stared at me with unreadable eyes. He seemed to be in a bad mood.
“Why did you move here?”
I avoided his gaze and answered softly, “I want to sleep alone.”
Adrian lowered his brows and stared at me steadily.
It felt like the temperature around us dropped several degrees.
“Why?”
His voice was cool.
I knew moving rooms so suddenly was strange, so I kept my eyes on the floor and gave him the excuse I had prepared long ago.
“Well… didn’t you say last time that my sleeping posture was bad? I was afraid I’d disturb your sleep, so I thought I should move out first and fix my bad habit.”
Adrian replied almost immediately, “Sleep with me. I’ll help you fix it.”
My ears instantly grew hot.
It was such a normal sentence, but coming from Adrian’s clear, pleasant voice, it somehow sounded dangerously intimate.
I suddenly remembered all those nights we had slept embracing each other.
He hated wearing a shirt to bed. His hot chest would press against my back, his chin brushing my hair.
But all of that had happened because I forced it.
Every night, I would insist that Adrian hold me from behind while we slept.
He probably had not liked that either.
Guilt rose inside me for no reason.
Before I could answer, Adrian had already reached out and grabbed one of my hands.
But I shook him off like I had been electrocuted.
Under his darkening gaze, I steadied myself, pressed my lips together, and refused in a small voice.
“No. I think sleeping alone is nice. I… also want some personal space.”
Adrian looked at me for a while, then nodded.
“Fine. Don’t regret it.”
