Chapter 1
On the eve of my wedding, I overheard my fiancé’s wicked plan through the car’s dashcam.
He said he was only marrying me to spite my ex. He planned to publicly call off our wedding during the broadcast to utterly destroy my reputation.
He thought I was oblivious, still dreaming of becoming Mrs. Gerald.
He had no idea I had already replaced the ceremonial video file with that very recording, along with undeniable proof of his affairs.
Caroline POV
In seven days, I would marry Isaac.
Our entire social circle buzzed with the same gossip: how I had hit the jackpot, transforming from Floyd’s persistent admirer into Isaac’s cherished fiancée.
Even I had started to believe it.
For years, Isaac had treated me like a treasure.
He would drive across the city through a storm just to bring me hot soup. He would postpone billion-dollar mergers to sit by my side when I was sick.
He had once held my face and said, “Caroline, I’m going to give you a wedding for the century. The kind that silences every critic for good.”
I believed him.
Until ten minutes ago.
His message had been simple.
Honey, I had someone drop off the dashcam’s SD card. Could you grab the footage from that little fender bender for the insurance company?
A voice note followed.
“Thanks, babe. I’ll take you to that French restaurant tonight.”
I was still smiling when I slid the card into my laptop.
The file opened.
At first, there was only darkness and the low hum of an engine.
Then Isaac’s voice came through the speakers, cold and amused.
“Caroline Hart? She still thinks I’m in love with her.”
A woman laughed softly beside him.
That voice made my blood run cold.
It was Evelyn.
Floyd’s first love.
The woman everyone had called his white moonlight.
Isaac continued, almost lazily, “I’m only going through with the wedding to bury Floyd for good. He always thought Caroline would wait for him forever. I want him to watch me take what he threw away.”
Evelyn giggled. “And after the ceremony?”
He laughed.
“During the live broadcast, I’ll call it off in front of everyone. I’ll tell them I can’t marry a woman who chased another man for years and settled for me only after she got rejected. Her reputation will be finished.”
My hand froze on the mouse.
My breathing stopped.
The recording kept playing.
“She’ll never recover,” Evelyn said.
“That’s the point,” Isaac replied. “After that, she won’t even dare show her face in our circle again.”
There was a rustle of fabric, a low moan, and then the unmistakable sound of kissing.
I slammed the laptop shut so hard the screen shook.
For a long moment, I just sat there staring at my reflection in the black monitor.
My fingertips trembled.
I wanted to cry.
I wanted to scream.
Instead, I opened the laptop again.
If Isaac wanted a spectacle, then I would give him one.
