Chapter 14
Yvette had been hiding in the corner, eavesdropping the entire time.
At that point, she could no longer stay hidden.
She rushed out and screamed, “Why? Why do I have to be dragged down with him when I’ve already lost everything?”
She lunged at Damon, trying to hit him.
But Damon reacted faster and slapped her across the face.
“You bitch!” he roared. “If it weren’t for you, would I have killed Ranger? If Ranger hadn’t died, Serena would never have completely given up on me! The old man told me not to kill that dog. He said Ranger was Serena’s weak point, the only thing that could control her. You were the one—”
Then he kicked Yvette hard.
I watched the two of them tear each other apart without the slightest ripple in my heart.
I called the guards.
“Take them both to the police station. Submit every piece of evidence.”
What happened afterward no longer mattered much to me.
I just needed to see them sentenced with my own eyes.
On the day Damon and Yvette were finally convicted, Adrian walked toward me carrying a box.
His eyes were full of pain.
“Ranger is here,” he said softly. “Let’s say goodbye to him together.”
I nodded.
Holding the heavy urn in my arms, I finally felt my eyes burn.
For so many years, I had survived on hatred.
But at that moment, all that remained was grief.
I held the box tightly and whispered, “Ranger… in your next life, don’t be my dog anymore.”
Then I cried at last.
