Chapter 1
Synopsis: Damon Locke let his precious little secretary torment my dog of ten years until he died. To get revenge, I stabbed that secretary five times, savoring her screams as if I were admiring a masterpiece. Everyone thought Damon would kill me for it. Instead, he only threw a divorce agreement at me and said coldly, “You were nothing but a dog raised by the Locke family. If you want to go insane, then get out.”
After that night, I disappeared.
A year later, I returned in my father’s place to attend a grand banquet. There, I saw the woman again—Damon’s secretary. She splashed red wine all over me and sneered, “Well, if it isn’t the dog the Locke family threw away.”
I picked up a champagne bottle and smashed it over her head without hesitation.
“For five years, no one managed to teach you how to act human,” I said. “So today, I will.”
She shrieked. Her followers rushed in front of her, pointing at me and yelling.
“Who the hell are you?” “Do you even know who you just hit?” “She’s the future fiancée of the crown prince of Locke Group!” “You offended her. Mr. Locke won’t let you walk out alive!”
Another one blocked my path and laughed. “Let me see what blind fool dares lay a hand on the woman Mr. Damon treasures most. Everyone knows he dotes on Miss Vale. If even one strand of her hair falls, he’ll turn the world upside down.”
Yvette Vale clutched her bleeding forehead and glared at me viciously.
“Serena Hale,” she hissed, “five years ago I spared you out of kindness. That doesn’t mean I’m still afraid of you now. You were just Damon’s house pet. Five years ago, I could have killed you. If you dare show your face again, I still can.”
I looked at Yvette’s face, polished and pampered by years of luxury, and I had to admit Damon had raised her well. Back then, she had only known how to lower her head and tremble as she called me Mrs. Locke. Now she could stand before a crowd and threaten to kill me without blinking.
Too bad I had never been the soft type.
Not five years ago. Not now.
